Every morning begins with coffee in hand, a quiet porch, and familiar feathered visitors arriving one by one.
Over time, they became more than birds passing through. Each developed a personality of its own, inspiring this collection of watercolor paintings, stories, and note cards celebrating the small moments that often become the most meaningful.

Faithful Visitor • House Sparrow
Behind the Painting
Every collection has a beginning, and this little House Sparrow was mine.
Unlike the others that fluttered in for a quick meal, he stayed. He perched beside the fountain, rested on the feeder, and sometimes sat quietly as though he were simply taking in the view across the marsh.
He was a little fluffier than the other sparrows, and before long I could recognize him the moment he arrived. What surprised me most was how comfortable he became with me. Even when I stepped onto the porch, he rarely flew away.
We simply shared the space together, morning after morning.
Then, one day, he didn’t come back.
I never knew what happened to my little visitor, but his quiet companionship changed the way I looked at the birds around me. He reminded me that even the most familiar creatures can leave the deepest impression.
Faithful Visitor is dedicated to the little sparrow who unknowingly inspired the beginning of Meet Me at the Fountain.

There is something wonderfully captivating about the Carolina Wren.
As South Carolina’s state bird, I’ve always felt a special connection to this tiny bird. But watching one visit my porch each day has given me an even greater appreciation for his remarkable personality.
Unlike many birds that seem constantly in motion, the Carolina Wren often pauses to observe. Perched with his tail held high and his bright eyes taking in everything around him, he gives the impression that nothing escapes his notice. Whether he’s quietly watching from a nearby branch or studying the activity around the porch, he seems completely engaged with the world around him.
His confidence, curiosity, and unmistakable posture make him impossible to overlook. Though small in size, he carries himself with quiet assurance, as if the porch is part of his daily responsibility.

The One Who Came Back • Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Behind the Painting
This summer, for the first time, I hung a hummingbird feeder outside my studio window. I wondered if anyone would ever find it.
Then one tiny ruby-throated hummingbird appeared.
He discovered the feeder, disappeared, and then came back.
And he kept coming back.
Each morning I found myself watching for that familiar flash of emerald and ruby. Coffee nearby, camera in hand, I’d photograph and film him from my studio window before returning to my painting table, where those quiet moments became watercolor studies.
Before long, another tiny hummingbird joined him, finding a favorite perch that overlooks the marsh after visiting the feeder. What began with one curious visitor became a daily ritual that still unfolds outside my window.
The One Who Came Back celebrates the little hummingbird who first discovered my porch and returned again and again, reminding me that sometimes one small visitor is all it takes to begin something beautiful.
Tiny Neighbor • Carolina Chickadee

There is something undeniably joyful about the Carolina Chickadee.
Before long, a whole little flock began visiting my porch together. Tiny in size but overflowing with personality, they arrive with endless curiosity and an infectious energy.
I found myself learning more about these little birds and even offering food chosen especially for them, hoping they’d continue to make my porch part of their daily routine.
What fascinates me most is the way they move. They flit from branch to feeder, pause just long enough to look around, then dart off again with playful confidence. Their lively interactions almost seem choreographed, as though they’re sharing a conversation that only they understand. Watching them reminds me that some of life’s happiest moments happen in the smallest, quietest ways.
