The Lowcountry surrounds us with colorful magic on a daily basis. . . Now let’s paint it!
Join us for a relaxed, welcoming introduction to acrylic painting inspired by the beauty of the Lowcountry. Participants create their own painted landscape on canvas using a favorite Lowcountry photo as inspiration — marsh, river, coastal sky, or any peaceful outdoor scene. This is a guided painting experience with individual creative freedom. While everyone learns the same foundational techniques and follows the same simple process, each participant works from their own photo reference. The result is a room full of uniquely personal paintings — no two finished pieces are the same. No prior painting experience is necessary. The focus is on enjoying the process, learning approachable techniques, and leaving with a finished piece.
What to Bring
• A favorite Lowcountry photo for inspiration (marsh, river, coastal sky, garden, or landscape)
• Photos with a visible sky and simple horizon work best
• Reference images will be available if you don’t have a photo
What’s Included
• 11x14 stretched canvas
• Acrylic paints, brushes, palettes, and all materials
• Guided instruction and live demonstration with artist Kimberly Sullivan
• Finished painting to take home
• Appetizer + mimosa provided by Cat Island Club
Instructor-Led Flow
This session is led without formal slides to keep the experience warm, social, and studio focused. Kim’s easel serves as the primary visual guide. Short, focused micro-demos are used throughout the session so participants can immediately apply each technique to their own painting.
Teaching Philosophy
Participants learn how to translate a photo into paint by simplifying shapes, working big to small, and focusing on mood and color rather than tiny details. The shared process provides structure, while individual photo references ensure every painting is personal and meaningful.
