Upcoming Classes at Cat Island Club

May 20, 2026 Your Pet, In Paint

In celebration of National Pet Month, this session invites you to honor your pet… in paint.

(Not literally)—but translated through layered papers, color, and expressive paint techniques.

Participants create a one-of-a-kind mixed media canvas portrait using a personal photo as inspiration. Through guided instruction, students build their artwork in layers—combining collage, color exploration, and acrylic painting to capture both likeness and personality.

Rather than focusing on realism, this experience encourages creativity and interpretation, allowing each piece to feel unique and personal.

Held on National Rescue Dog Day, this experience offers a meaningful way to celebrate the animals who bring so much into our lives.

Painting Lowcountry Light - Acrylics

The Lowcountry surrounds us with colorful magic on a daily basis. Let’s paint it!

Participants create their own painted landscape on canvas using a favorite Lowcountry photo as inspiration — marsh, river, coastal sky, or any peaceful outdoor scene.

This is a guided painting experience with individual creative freedom. While everyone learns the same foundational techniques and follows the same simple process, each participant works from their own photo reference.

Painting Florals — Acrylics

Spring arrives in the Lowcountry with color, light, and fresh inspiration.

Participants create their own expressive floral painting while working from live flowers as reference. Rather than copying every detail, this experience introduces a painter’s approach to interpreting flowers through color, light, and atmosphere.

Students learn how artists simplify shapes, use warm and cool color relationships to create mood, and build softness and depth with layered brushwork. Simple compositional techniques help guide the viewer’s eye through the painting while allowing each participant’s interpretation to remain unique.

What to Expect

Explore our artist workshops and classes where passion, creativity, and inspiration meet.

These small-group arts classes are designed to be relaxed, welcoming, and social. Each session is guided step-by-step, with all supplies provided—so you can simply show up and enjoy the creative process.

Art classes and workshops will rotate monthly through different mediums such as watercolor, graphite/charcoal, oils, mixed media, and acrylic painting. No prior experience is required. Classes are led by arts educator, Kim Sullivan and offered at Cat Island weekly and/or monthly. Whether you’re curious about trying something new or returning to art after a long break, you’ll feel supported every step of the way.

Instructor-Led Flow

This session is led without formal slides to keep the experience warm, social, and studio-focused. Kim’s easel serves as the primary visual guide. Short, focused micro-demos are used throughout the session so participants can immediately apply each technique to their own painting.
